Interview with Lauren Kate

Interview with Lauren Kate by B. Marie

B. Marie: While on tour for your book “Torment” what was a few of your favorite moments?

LK: Because the covers of the books have become such a big part of the series, a lot of the schools I visited on my tour had made a group art project out of recreating the covers. There was a school in Washington State where the entire 11th grade class had a hand in some part of this giant 12-foot cover reproduction. It was great because by the time I showed up to talk about the book, they were all really invested in their contribution to the project. We had a great chat about books, art, writing, and all sorts of other interesting things. I felt like I really got to know them in the hour I was there.

B. Marie: You must get asked this quite a bit but how did the concept of the Fallen series come to you?

LK: The idea began when I came across a line in Genesis that talked about a group of angels who were kicked out of heaven because they lusted after mortal women. I started thinking about what it would be like to be normal girl–suddenly the object of an angel’s affection. All the excitement and the challenges that would naturally spring from that. As someone who’s been writing love stories my whole life, this angel angle seemed like the perfect way for me to up the ante and tell a really BIG love story, one that brought in questions about trust and betrayal, and preconceived notions good and evil.

B. Marie: What’s next after Fallen Series? Can we expect any spinoff series after the Final Fallen book?

ABC Family’s Q&A Session with Ashley Benson – Pretty Little Liars

Moderator How important are social networking sites to the promotion of shows like Pretty Little Liars, that’s still kind of new?

S. Mitchell They are getting increasingly more important and more important.  I mean with Twitter and with Facebook and MySpace, it plays a very big part of the whole marketing strategy.  And I think the reason is because you can reach so many more people from across the world.  Twitter, I don’t even know how many fan pages and everything we have, and it’s in Brazil and Australia and everywhere.  I don’t know, it’s bringing the world a little bit closer.  So, yes, it’s extremely important for the marketing team to be on top of everything and on those pages and have their own pages just so you keep up with everything else that’s moving so fast.

Moderator With the show becoming such a bit hit, how do you deal with all of the attention and popularity you’re getting now?
